I'm really surprised no one has posted a topic on this game yet. Despite the fact I detest the core progress factor in this game, I think it's, overall; awesome. Basically, you start off as single-celled organism, your only point to existence? Survive. Eventually, after you've eaten enough, you get enough points to "purchase" evolution upgrades; this allows you add on appendages and other enhancements to your little microbe. Eventually, you'll move on to the "creature" stage where your creature can customize the food it eats, it's social habits, and how it behaves (of course, you control the direct actions of your creature).

From here, you move on to the tribal stage where the basics of so-called "civilization" form...the tribal stage eventually moves on to the civilization stage where you can interact with them, trade with them, make war against them, make peace, or wipe their race of people from the planet, forever.

Eventually, after attaining complete control of the planet (whether politically, economically, militarily, culturally, or whatever you wish), then you move on to the space stage; this is where the real fun begins. Basically, there's scores and scores (no exaggeration here) of other planets that you can explore, colonize, teraform, or make war against.

Now, you're probably wondering why I called this a "MSO" or that it "sort of" had online play. You see, while you play (and while you're not, I believe), if you're tapped into EA's  servers, you'll constantly be downloading content from other people's games (their creatures, civilizations, weapons, etc) and they'll be placed in your game to make war against/ally with/obliterate/etc. And, according to EA, the little tiny creatures can play a heavy role too; you can create a microscopic organism who's only intent is to destroy (ie: virus-like organisms) that can infect other creatures/civilizations and wipe them out.

Also, all these downloaded creatures and civilizations will continue their own progress throughout the universe, in their quest for control of literally everything.

Originally, this game was going to be called "Sim Everything", but the title was eventually changed (no clue why).

So, whether you want to rule the universe with a single race, build an empire of eternal peace, be the modern-day Babylon, or build up huge societies until they sap the world's they live upon dry (and ultimately cause their own demise); it's up to you.
