I personally think the new SFO looks amazing!

I was wondering what was going on when there were no new updates for the past two months.

Excellent work Mr. K!

The brand, spankin' new layout sure does make a colossal difference from the original which we were all getting pretty familiar with. I would say it makes a nice, visually-appealling flow for the site.

It's too bad you did not work hard on getting the yet-missing content online yet!

:) Hello, long time no hear, I like the new website look, very nice!

Hey!  :D In the "Star Fox Adventure" music, I found that theme that I was so curious about. "Unused Song #3" I wonder what that "boom boom" instrument is used, it almost sounds like a muddy low part of a piano. You hear it right at the beginning, could someone tell what they think could be? Please and thank you.

I hear the following bass instruments playing a unison line at the beginning:

Piano (sample with heavy bass piano

)

Timpani (rolled) (Timpani solo

[he turns the sticks around to change the attack. Soft mallets have less attack, bare wood obviously has more])

Cellos (All-cello ensemble

)

Basses (Solo Bass

)

These are the percussive sounds I hear:

Bass Drum (unison with bass line) (

[Gods, this took a while to find])

Small Gong hit with softly with hard mallet (no sample due to large number of types of gong)

Taiko drum (the low beat) (

[solo at beginning is a similar size to the one in the song])

Djembe (The higher beat) (

[Djembes come in different sizes. The one in the song is larger than this one.])

This is all before the violin/trumpet entrance (with eighth and sixteenth notes) at :25

The "boom boom" you hear I think is the Timpani and bass drum.

For some added fun, the largest set if Timpani I have ever seen:

ft8DsQ7l4v8

I didn't even know they made them in that size. They almost sound like toms.

You must know these things if you write music for orchestra. If you don't know what the instruments sound like, you can't write something that sounds like you want it to.
