Is there any MIDI composing program that allows you to use your keyboard as a piano? I had one once, but i can't remember the name.

(Topic mostly directed to DZ.)

There's a few out there. I've seen 3 different ones in stores like Best Buy and CompUSA, and an Electric piano i have came with one. (forgot the name, need to reinstall it too, i've got plans for it and the demo download of MAYA i've got.) But yes, there are MIDI composing programs that work with an electric piano.

I don't have an electric piano. That's why i want a program that replaces the piano with my keyboard. Know any good free ones?

Free ones? Sadly, No. I've been looking for one for a while, since i've been having trouble with hooking our electric piano to my computer (my PC doesn't like new hardware that much...). I know i had one a while back, but i can't remember the name or where i found it sadly.

If i find any, i'll make sure to post a link to the site.

Ok, thanks for your help. Shame there isn't one, since i know i once had one, i think it was called Presto Midi Maker, but all the links i've found doesn't exist.

Hmm... Really, using the PC keyboard as a music keyboard isn't as good as you would think. The feeling is entirely unnatural. My sampler has the option, and I hate it.

http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=8&subcategory=234&product=9335 <-- $60 bucks. PC keyboard with MIDI controller built-in. I've never used one, but it would be better than using your QWERTY.

You could also spend a little more and buy a dedicated MIDI controller. No need to buy a $300 portable keyboard from Best Buy if you only want to control your computer's MIDI synth.

What brand piano? If it supports MIDI, you don't need drivers. MIDI is a standard that every soundcard knows.

Presto Arranger is an old win 3.1 program that would do it [and works in windows XP]. Also, noteworthy composer would let you make and play back scores. I have them both [my copy of Noteworthy is a demo that lets you do most everything] and I am not sure of Presto's current [share/free/pay]were status.
