I can't find my old culture thread, so anyway.

What does Marko mean. In various games, and some comedies, when americas jump into water, someone shouts "Marko!". Why?

"Marco Polo" was a merchant in the late 1200's who wrote a famous book called II Milione, which first described Central Asia and China to Europeans. His journeys and epic tail of what he encountered inspired many other explorers, including Columbus.

For whatever reason, probably because Marco Polo was known as a famous explorer who traveled the seas, his name was used as the main interaction method of a game named "Marco Polo." The game is a form of tag played in a pool, in which the player who is 'it' keeps their eyes closed, and hence must rely on the sound of the non-it players yelling 'Marco!' and others responding 'Polo!' to determine their location.

Don't forget if you hear "Fish out of water" and get slapped by a flying fish, it's like getting hit in the head with a computer monitor if you hear, "HAX!" screamed, it's cheating, it's not nice!

Aah. Now I know. Well, this thread is pretty much done then. If I had known that it was from a game called marco polo I could have looked it up.
