I just got done playing the free game Iji. It's a good game about blowing up aliens. 1 problem, it won't shut up about pacifism and how any killing for any reason is wrong. Why can't I have fun blowing aliens through windows? Why do you have to make me feel bad about it?

Anyway, angered by this rediculous notion I ranted to a friend about it who then revealed he was pacifist not because he believes all life is sacred, but for economical and social reasons. ie. War is expecive and the law says violence is bad and will get you jailed.

I find these ideas rediculous. It's a dumb belief that people only fight because they choose too, not because they have to.

Humans are animals, and animals fight other animals. They do it for territory, food, self-defense, defense of their loves ones, any number of reasons. Fighting is natural, the human race will always do it.

Even if we are animals that DOES NOT

means that we have to keep fighting.

Fighting for no reason is stupid

and useless. Also I know that I should

not be saying this but, supposedly,

you 'do not' defend yourself, but the law

does. that is why we have laws in the first

place.

Also, there are some animal species that

do not fight -ever- in their lives. They are

eaten or killed, but they do not ever try

a belligerent act. At least not against

others of their same kind.

That is what I like about games. They

differ from reality. I do not like killing in

real life. I discourage war, and while

not entirely a pacifist, I agree with some

of that pacifist stuff.

Games however, are cool as they are:

I wasn't saying fight for no reason, DRL. I don't mean walk up to some dude and sock him in the face, that would be wrong and pointless. But if someone breaks into my house, I will not refrain from injuring, wounding, crippling, or, if need be, killing him to protect me and mine from harm. Most animals will do the same, protection of themselves, their family (if they're not solitary animals), and their territory.

I agree with Vydrach. I'm not going to fight unless it's for a really good cause. In which case, I'd do whatever I deemed necesary.

In the old old old days, there was this thing that was called "Self-Defense" back then, you were allowed to defend yourself. However the line between someone going at you with a knife and you fighting for your life, compared to going on a rampage and killing hundreds of people, was so fine, that they couldn't tell the difference, and so the law was changed.

Self defense laws today favor the perpetrator of the crime, it's BS.  If an idiot tries to attack my GF for example and I defend her because she's helpless and I punch him I can be charged with assault because technically I wasn't defending myself so self-defense doesn't apply.  I can RESTRAIN HIM but I can't otherwise attack him, if he has a knife or something than it's even more difficult for me to stop him without attacking him and risk getting a criminal record. 

There are similar BS instances like someone breaking into your home and tripping and breaking their leg and then charging you somehow.

I live in a society where when someone

points a gun, and a cop is near, he does not says

"Drop your gun!"; he/she/it simply shots the bad guy.

And if that fails, at that point you can not defend yourself.

Basically if someone is pointing at you and you are too close,

then you are unable to make a move (beacuse if you do so

you are killed). If you talking about a more "larger" distance,

then you can run. Fighting back is not still probably a good idea

because the person would continue to fire... Unless you have

a weapon and/or are a policeman, in which case, you are encouraged

to fire back and/or defeat/capture that criminal.

Actually, there is something called the "Three second rule" when it comes to punks with firearms. Punks don't actually want to use the gun, since that makes noise, is easier to match a gun to a person than a knife, and most people don't want the rap for murder/assault with a deadly weapon. The police are actually trained to react within the three seconds of that person trying to decide whether or not to fire.

While not worth fighting over something as trivial as your wallet, if it's a kidnap attempt, take your chance with the fight, as if you allow yourself to be kidnapped, your chance of survival is pretty much 0%.

I mean, the only point I disagree,

is about the 'will ever do'... because

we really do not know what lies

in the future. I like to think that

in the future we will be wise enought

to solve all dispute in more... 'diplomatic'

I know, I wish we could go back to those days.

I agree!  That's why I don't pay taxes (well, that, and I'm unemployed...again).
