And We are Back Online!

Alright then! Hello all RPers, let me just take a second to let you in on some rule changes that Sylum and I have decided on:

1. The one RP per person rule still stands. Don’t let all your ideas go at once! Write them down, think about them, and then choose your best. Thinking about the foundation of your story will help improve RP quality.

2. The 60 page limit is no longer in effect. We found that the negative side effects outweighed the positive of getting more RPs moving

3. Maximum amount of RPs going at once has now been increased to 6.

4. Post Limit is now in effect! Each RPer will now have 10 posts per day per RP to get their point across! Use those 10 posts to your best advantage; fill them full of meaningful dialogue and engaging storytelling. Let’s try and move away from one liners, shall we? This includes ALL roleplays, even the casual ones such as the Lylat Hotel and such. This rule is effective starting August 17th. Suspended

5. Let me or Sylum know if something comes up, and the roleplay or roleplay request will be going quiet. No activity for two weeks means a lock.

6. When an RP request is given the green light, remember to send a PM to the Mod that approved you before you start for organizational purposes, and also because its the polite thing to do.

7. Please remember that this forum is to be kept PG. I don't want to see any heavy makeout scenes going on.

Other than that, follow the rule forum and be nice :P We will start getting more RPs running very soon, just trying to iron out some last details. If you have any questions or comments, I am interested in hearing them :)

Wait, wait, hold on now...

I understand that you might be a roleplayer for full page descriptions and such, but a lot of us enjoy roleplaying in a more relaxed, conversation-based style.  We'll make a short post and wait for the other's response.  While I know you didn't set a post size limit, as a concerned roleplayer I consider a post limit in and of itself to be ridiculous.

I agree, as most of the RP'ing done is in small conversation, which needs several posts to complete..  I do agree with all other rules and regulations besides #4 though :D

We are trying to strike a balance between RP movement, and the ability for Sylum and I to moderate the goings on. If the negatives begin to outweigh the positives, we'll axe it, but for now it stands.

But you realize how slowly that will make the roleplays move, don't you?  People are bound to lose interest and support in the section.

And on top of that, What is the point of a post limit anyway?  Why?

you do realize that with the average amount of people playing in a roleplay, that still gives you about 4-6 pages of story movement in a day? thats not 10 posts in total per day, thats ten posts Per RP per day

And what about the people who are only in one roleplay?

I realize that most of the issue is surrounding the Luxury Lylat Hotel. I saw the posts. This is not a "punishment" rule. No one has done anything "bad". But one of the fourm rules is that rps have to move a pace such that they can be moderated effectively by staff. If a mod asks you to slow down, you slow down. I realize that you go through 20 pages in a day. And you must also realize that movement like that cuts deeply into our ability to effectively moderate.

I've already said. If it doesn't work out it'll be axed. Just like the RP page limit. Didn't work, now its gone.

The rule might not be made with the intent of punishing us, but, frankly, it is.  Clearly, none of us want to post only ten per day.  Besides, we've followed all of the rules up to this point, haven't we?

I have to agree with this  putting that limite severly limits us good roleplayers as well as the bad so in essence it is a 'punishment' for all not just the bad but the good too.

it's like telling a writer of a book that they can only make a 10 page story.

Whoa... Okay. I see where this is a good idea, and also bad. I know it doesn't mean much, but Tyler asked me to watch over the Lylat Luxury Hotel for reasons of moderation since I am online most of the time (Except for now, which will change Wednesday, or earlier if lucky). The 10 post thing, in essence, is a good idea. BUT, for things like sticky RP's, just get a commonly active member, like Tyler did with me, to moderate it. Sticky RP's aren't like the usual RP's that need consideration and have a 100 page limit.

Alright then. There's no reason for a rule that will drive members away and cause them to leave. As of now the rule is void.

This was to solve pacing issues that used to be massive everyday and i didn't want happening again with the large amount.of people here.

This is not a threat: if there comes a point where i or fira get pacing complaints or we can't effectively.moderate this board, i will reinstate it for a time until things get back under control. We're trying new things since there is 2 of us and we'd like some cooperation.

[i hate posting this publicly, but I don't know how much time I will have, and I hit the limit on 20 messages per hour. This is for Fira: I totally agree with what you said. And I do believe in a week, when myself along with many others, are going to school, and have homework and such, it will be much more to yours and mine's (Sorry, bad grammar) likings. But I do agree with you on that. :)]

Boy this fell apart. Sorry guys.

Fira had nothing to do with that rule and it was all my idea. If you have any problems with anything that happened, that was my fault and I'm sorry. Made a total ass of myself.

Sylum, don't take it so hard on yourself, everyone screws up at times, and it's expected, as it is your first time on the job! :P.  Both of you are doing great :friends:

Well, I'll give you this:  You're doing much better than some of the other mods I've run into.  After all, you listened to us =P

Now, I think it was a good rule. That might be just me, but I did agree with it, with the exception for Sticky RP's. Normal RP's (Like in the Jurassic Park) sometimes will get too much small talk, causing it to be unessential reading, and take up post room for the time. Plus, you guys did offer to have ideas come into play and comments rather than being controlling of it with no exceptions, so I don't think you made an ass of yourself. And no needs to be sorry.  :)

I just going to step in and say that the existence of this board depends on the abilities of Sylum and Fira to keep it moderated. Just keep that in mind and don't swamp them.

I understand that you guys want as much freedom in RP as possible, and I agree with that sentiment, however the abilities of the staff have to be considered as well.

I'm not defending the post limit, but I do want to re-iterate the point that Sylum and Fira need to be able to do their jobs without being overwhelmed. So if they tell you an RP is moving too fast, please find a way to slow it down.
