What are your opinions on these new "invasive" body scanners being rolled out at 60+ airports "in the name of security"?  You don't have to go through one but you'd instead be subject to a rigorous pat-down.  I fly out tomorrow to Chicago from Buffalo and hopefully they won't have these in place at Buffalo Niagara yet.

Thankfully they haven't made these mandatory in Canada and this is yet one more reason why I hate the TSA and their misguided leader John Pistole.

Update:  Looks like he'll be testifying before a Senate Committee.

*meanwhile, in the free world.

"America? Wtf are you doing? No more coffee for you! It's making you paranoid."

Also, they should realise that a mutated radioactive man is a greater risk then terrorists. Also love the flawed logic of saying he prefers a screened plane, therefore it's right.

Sorry, dude, BUF has body scanners.

Austin doesn't have them yet, but it's only a matter of time. DFW and IAH already do.

I flew throught BWI on my way back from DC. They had them there, but I lucked out and got to only go through a metal detector. I was fully prepared to opt out and troll the TSA agent and LOUDLY ridcule him if he cupped my nutsack. I know it's a politically incorrect, but the goal of the pat-downs is to humiliate you so you go through the scanner next time. I'd rather humiliate the TSA agent. Maybe it would make him think twice about feeling up people's junk. ;)

I think Ben Franklin sums up the body scanner the best

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

EDIT: I used a word I shouldn't have. I appologize.

Jeez, I had mine done......twice. Also, I had to bend over in front of the guy.

Sure these were part of medical examinations before enlisting in the Navy, but... whatever.

I have been a "victim" of one of these things before. They're not THAT bad, but I can see why people complain about them.

That was a medical exam to make sure you were physically fit to serve. Not a way of looking for a bomb. It is worth mentioning that the TSA has never successfully stopped a terrorist.

My question is whatever happened to those explosives detection scanners that they were talking about a few years ago? Those were far-less intrusive and made more sense.

I'm sure this is going to come down to a "follow the money" situation in the end.

Yeah, you remember that UPS Bomb story that happened not to long ago. I believe the submarines down here are in Force Condition Charlie right now.

Yeah, tell me about it.

Oh, I remember one of my instructors yesterday was telling the class about how they do drills, and one of them is a bomb threat. Know what the "bomb" is?

A cardboard box with the word "BOMB" on it in big black letters.

If only it were that easy, arf!

Because submarines are great at stopping terrorist attacks.

Anyway, the real way to stop terrorism is to use intelligence agencies. Find out where the are, and act on that information in a responsible manner. By that I mean round them up. Don't drop a bomb on the hose the terrorist is in and kill have the children in the neighborhood in the process. That only gives the terrorists recruiting material.

The information needs to be shared with other agencies as well. Most of the terror attacks that happen seem to have an intelligence sharing failure involved somewhere.

We don't need body scanners for that.

Plus, if we're so goddamn worried about saving American lives, why the hell do we still let people drive cars? That's one of the most dangerous activities in the country.

Actually, should a submarine ever fall under attack in port, we just close up all openings, pop out of the sail (which is inscalable unless they had grappling hooks or something) then shoot at them with an M16.

Oh, and FPCON Charlie is defined as: When an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating that a terrorist attack is likely.

Another useless, time consuming thing to do. Next thing they will do is demand you to get naked in a room to be "through-fully checked for body bombs" all the time.

I'm going to laugh when demands about "oh no, your body scan got me cancer!" or "you sooo touched me THERE on purpose" appear frequently.

The land of freedom is starting not to look so free after all.

Except he had nothing to do with this. TSA instituted this. :|

I do wish you wouldn't call him names. It's really disrespectful of the position he holds. Whether you like him or not is not the issue.

By then, it will be too late. You drank... NITROGLYCERIN! You ARE a bomb! BUAHAHAHAHA!

Reddit may not be pretty, but its got the community and the content. Reddit laughed as Digg started going down in flames.

The current idea is to make Nov 24, one of the busiest flight days of the year, "National Opt-Out Day." The idea is to get as many people as possible to opt-out odd the body scans, go through the feel-me-up, and then complain about it en masse to TSA supervisors and local DAs, some of which have said they will file sexual assault charges on screeners who take the pat-downs too far.

I remember watching the news today about someone from the TSA, IIRC, who decided to rap for a TV commercial.

  • 3 weeks later...

yep. And they are possably harmful. And they don't detect explosives. And they don't spot things inside of you. All in all, pretty useless.
