Milkyway64
Being a furry is tough. Nobody understands you and you're branded a freak with no chance of social recovery because your roommate walked in on you reading Sabrina Online. Well, there IS a chance. You just need a few things to help you out. First and foremost is time, no matter what you do, make sure that the rumors of your dirty Krystal pictures collection have blown over before attempting anything in this thread. Okay, so has it been a while? No? Come back later, this thread may be in the archives so don't freak out if you can't find it. If it has been a while, continue on. Out of sight, out of mind is an excellent piece of advice applicable to most anything. Same goes with your dilemma, dear furry. Take down your prints and furry posters from your wall, and the next time you go for your monthly adventure out of the house leave the ears and tail in the closet. When online, try not to use furry avatars or link to Furaffinity or Deviantart. See, how this works is you've effectively donned a disguise that you're a normal person. You may not actually be one, but you've always knew the truth. What matters is what other people think. If you can blend into a crowd, you're golden. All that's left is to lead a double life like a secret agent, assuming the identity of a clean, productive member of society by day, and a shameless furry by night. Tip number 2 makes liberal use of psychology. History has been painted by great liars, so take notes and do the same for yourself. The human mind is a powerful thing and with enough persistence, it can be trained to believe anything to be true. Now as a furry, you may already know what this is like from whenever you close you Windows Picture and Fax Viewer currently showing an anthropomorphic fox involved in things unsuited to be described here in order to argue online that you hate yiffers and want a clean, respectable fandom. Well, it's not a respectable fandom, and you know it, so lie! Hide the fact that you're a furry at all costs. Should anyone find evidence of your furry night life, blame viruses, siblings, or the paranormal. Sooner or later, however, those excuses will stop working. So, you explain that they're remnants from when you were a furry, but assert that you aren't anymore. Fortunately for you, most normals don't know that you can't recover from furfaggotry. Tip number three is to be more social. Yes, I'm serious. Get up off your shy ass and go somewhere. Talk to people. See, a furry outside of his home is unheard of, so anyone you talk to in person outside of your own home won't suspect you by default, not to mention that this is good practice for when you actually get a social life. Yes, I know it's hard to stop drawing depraved art of two half-animals getting it on, but there ARE jobs out there with better pay. I know you're bumming about breaking your constant furry roleplaying, but a real social life beats out what you've been pretending is a social life for all these years. Who knows, with persistence, you may even lift yourself of your furry curse. Be warned, though, that sometimes you get a false sense of security and just when you think that your life is shaping into something good, you get smacked down by your old furry ways. Do know that this is normal and stopping them isn't your goal, hiding them is. You're already good at pretending to be a vixen with hilariously oversized breasts, use that skill to pretend that you don't pretend to be a vixen with hilariously oversized breasts. With any luck, you should be in control enough to BS your way onto a couple rungs up the social ladder while still having all the things that makes being a furry so great to you. It's win/win. Glad I could help you all out.

Redeemer
This is hilarious. But I think these... "rules", especially the third one, can help anyone overcome an internet addiction, not just a furry lifestyle. XD
"User"
OH OH!! Are we allowed to add to this guide with additional tips and advice? For example, I want to add on a "Part 2: Furries and relationships" section as a next "challenge" once your average furry's social life gets to a certain level. :)

Robert Monroe
Ridiculous, but to a degree true. Main reason hate furries is because they're all murfydurfy murrypurry. It's like a gay guy constantly reminding you he's gay. loldermotjokes
Fluxy
Op, I see what ya did There, Rob. =P Lol it kinda goes with that whole "Pride" stuff. "I am PROUD to be black/Gay/Furry/*Insert other things here*" What is there -truly- to be "Proud" about? More to the point, what is it that makes you feel the need to shout "I dun care, because I'm- *Insert line here*". It only takes away the need or cause for action, or will, to improve where it is needed. Because in the end, which is easier? Studying up/learning on how you can become smarter, or just shouting you are better than everyone else? If they claim to want equality, then claim to be better, we simply tell them where they are bad to bring said balance. Thus being blinded by what they "Wanted" from the begining by this so called "Pride". Sorry for derailing, I felt this overall kinda fitted in on how to -not- be a hated furry. Starwing_93
Whilst Trolling, I do think there is a decent enough message in this as a whole, it is all about juggling your real social life with that of an online personality, be it Furry or otherwise. Same could go for a WOW addict for example, it's maintaining an interest in something you like but not allowing it to be so consuming that it impacts on you socially IRL. I'd say that I'm probably a Furry these days. Not a hardcore type with a Fursona and a secret folder full of yiff, but I do draw some Anthro art, read Anthro comics and the centre of my furryness is obviously my love for Star Fox, as well as Sonic and a few others. I think there is a certain reservedness about admitting to being a fur in real life, it's all down to the perception that all furs do is draw porn of animal characters and fap to other people's porn. Is there anything wrong with being that kind of Furry? Hell no, but it's simply not the sort of thing to go shouting about, be it "fursecution" or not, sadly people with no knowledge of how fandoms work will not comprehend it as regular behaviour. Most my close friends know and accept me as a fur, I know all their personality feature too and am confident enough that they like me for who I am to be open about it. Even if your friends don't necessarily approve of it, if your open about it but don't try to preach it to them, I guess there's nothing wrong, hell, if they disown you for one part of your personality, they're probably not worth having as friends. So that's my take on this, it's OK to be a fur of any level, and whilst I see it as normal the key problem is that people might not fully understand and perceive it as being weird or abnormal. My advice is if you are confident in someone's friendship, be open and don't try to hide any shame about it. They may not be 100% in agreement with you, but as long as you dont be too forward with gory details about your furry lifestyle then they should still accept you for who you are Disclaimer - any friends lost through admitting furryness is not under responsibility of this advice, and I advise only acting on my advice if 100% comfortable with who you IRL friends are :troll face:
