According to Capcom they officially declared that Megaman Legends 3 was to be canceled. They did not say any specifics as to why it was canceled other than it did not meet the criteria it required to go into full production. As such both the game and the prototype will not be released.

I don't get the negative reaction to this. I remember when Megaman Legends 1 and 2 came out. They were known for being terrible. The only one that was good was the spin off game "Misadventures of tron bonne".

Oh, theres more!

Capcom also said that one the creators of Megaman leaving Capcom had no effect of this decision, or the decision to cancel Megaman Universe earlier this year. So yeah, without Keiji Inafune Megaman's reputation is getting worse.

It probably equates to the less-than-stellar sales of the 3DS; the developers would want to put their time and effort into something where they can maximize profits, and I guess they see that the 3DS hasn't sold as well as expected.

Welcome to catch 22. People buy the machines to play games. I never got a 3DS because there is nothing on it. Now there is going to be nothing on it because no one is buying it.

I've seen the past, and I did business studies. In order to sell a machine you need a killer app. Computers didn't become household objects until windows. Almost every console has that game that sold it. I bet if I list some games you can name the console. Halo, Mario World, Grand Theft Auto 3, Sonic, Soul Calibar, Uncharted.

Gamers were burned by the wii, and the second half of the DS having nothing but crap. If they want to sell more 3DS, they have to release that game that makes people want to buy that machine. Nobody is going to invest that kind of money unless they are sure their game can sell enough.

I still think Legends 3 should have been released for PS3. I bought a 3DS primarly for Legends 3.. and now they cancelled it... Maybe I should sell the damn thing.. since now there is no game that really interests me. I do want Star Fox and OoT.. but those are not really new games in my eyes.. they are remakes.... sigh.

It was likely canceled due to the creator of Megaman leaving Capcom last year, as well as Capcom just being a derp in general lately. They canceled Megaman Online as well, didn't they?

Anyway, yeah, this sucks. The world's been waiting 10 years for the follow up on Legends 2, and now its gone. Sigh.

Actually its not because of that. Like I said before Capcom said that one the creators leaving Capcom had no effect of this decision, or the decision to cancel Megaman Universe which was the online game you were talking about. There are still some questions as to why it was canceled, though that I don't know.

10 bucks says that Capcom is likely cancelling it because...

A. They probably want more money from us.

B. I guess Street Fighter, Darkstalkers (No offense to the fans out there), Resident Evil and the Vs. Capcom games are more important to them than Megaman, even if Capcom says that they feel Megaman needs more love.

C. They took the inspartion of Valve Software and decided to cancel it "For teh LULZ" :troll:

D. Face it, they suck with Inafune leaving the company.

This just in people!

According to some Tweets made by Capcom Europe, the whole project was to experiment to show fans how the development process works and wanted to get feedback and ideas from their fans. Supposedly the lack of support of this process is what caused the game to get "red lighted". The tweet said "Unfortunately so few fans took part in the creation of the game. It was felt that the project was not worthwhile." The later tweet read "We weren't asking people to do much. Its a shame the fans didn't want to get more involved."

A few days ago after the cancelation, a Facebook campaign was made by fans to get 100,000 people to show their support. As of right now they have about 5,000.

SInce I do not have a Twitter account I can't find the link. I heard this from a friend who does follow Capcom on Twitter though.

I'm calling bullshit on this, because ever since MML3 was announced to have fan-support, websites like 4chan's /v/ were all over it. Capcom is just covering their ass.

This made me smile. I love this assumption that 4chan is THE site that matters when, if anything, it's the site that matters least.

Simply put, the megaman die hards who would buy dog poo if it megaman writen on it are not enough to support it. Megaman legends is Child of Eden. Loads of people demanded a sequal to Rez, when they finally made one, it flopped because it was a small, vocal fanbase that either wasn't big enough to make the game profitable, or weren't willing to put their money where their mouth was.

If you want more megaman, the solution is simple, buy more megaman. The games won't be good, but they will keep making them. Look at sonic. Games, cartoons and comics. All still being made and all terrible, but they keep being made because the sonic fanbase is big enough that their desire to burn money for anything with sonic in it that sega can make a profit.
