Wii U can play Gamecube games!

It turns out that gamecube discs will not be compatible with the system, but a number of games that were playable on the gamecube can be downloaded from Wiiware. Although this is not a official statement confirming downloadable Gamecube games, the possibility is still there. Chances are you will need to purchase a hard rive or an SD card to store the games, but I have a very cheaper and effective solution......Buy a Gamecube!

I was surprised about this too. This could mean that Super Smash Bros. Melee. Star fox Adventures and Assault can be downloaded. though for me I'm gonna stick with the physical version.

Nice!

That'd be great for more expensive games like Tales of Symphonia! :D

Surprised you haven't heard of Ikaruga. Quite the well-known shooter. :)

Well since the Wii can, you'd expect it to continue, but whatever

If I'm not mistaken, Nintendo has already said that they're not including DVD/Blu-Ray playback; a shame really. I still don't entirely see the point of the Wii - U, when Sony & Micro$oft release their next-gen consoles, Nintendo is going to be left behind again. The only positive I can think of is the library of Nintendo's exclusives.

Also, all Gamecube games on Wii - U have to be downloaded; Nintendo dropped backwards compatibility in physical format. (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/07/21/some-gamecube-titles-are-downloadable-on-wii-u.aspx)

Guest Mr. Nintendo

I knew I would see Gamecube games come back as downloadables for the Wii-U...but what can I say? If rare titles will be included in the library, it'll be good!!

"Buy the games you already own again!"

Nintendo is really being a pain about this. Not a way to win over alienated fans.

FINALLY!!! Something that's easier to acquire honestly than it is to pirate. I'm so used to it being the other way around. Trust me, getting GC roms is like, impossible.

If they screw it up and desecrate it with DRM I will cry.

That is great news! (especially for those who don't own the games...)

Maybe this means that controllers will at least be compatible?

Meh, i still have my gamecube, and if I want a game bad enough I'm sure there is some one out there who will sell it to me.
