Sabre
Continued from http://starfox-online.net/index.php/topic/9188-female-pervert/page__view__findpost__p__316085 It's actually not hard for women to get into the industry itself, I don't think. They're always open to it. But it is that women don't necessarily see it as a career option all the time, for whatever reason, and a lot of that is from social stigma. It's fine if you play games casually but when people think about it as a career path, there's a lot of parental/peer pressure and people don't take it seriously, or consider you some kind of delusional lesbian or some other retarded thing because girls don't play video games! Most of what I was told was actually from people who didn't actually know much about the industry at all, and they were just ASSUMING that this whole "female perspective" thing was in hot demand because they ASSUME girls don't play video games. Hell, even GIRLS assume girls don't play video games, hence your legions of stupid special snowflakes on deviantArt proclaiming how they're a GRRL GAMR AND PROWD. I wouldn't say that's exclusive to women. I have ranted many times in the past about people scoffing at the idea of a career in games as they said it was just a passing fad, not a real job ect. The female perspective thing is something I often facepalm at as on the rare occation that a company goes down the feminist "Made by women for women!" path, it always hurts the cause rather than helping it. They tend to make Nancy Drew games or games about shopping for shoes and grooming horses. I'm not a woman (yet ) but I think it's more insulting to think all women want is shoes and daytime drama simulators than to think they might enjoy shooting stuff. What you call Grrl Gamers are annoiying. I'd love to meet someone in RL who doesn't just roll their eyes with disinterest when I mention games, let alone someone who is passionate about them. Grrl gamers tend to be obnoxious attention seekers in my experience, but the bigger problem is hypocracy. Redeemer
I'm a gamer, and a girl, but for some reason I'm attracted to the darker stories out there. My favourite series is Silent Hill, although the female fanbase for that series annoys the shit out of me. I have joined a few forums in the past, and I almost instantly regretted joining. One forum was dominated, and I mean severely whipped, by this one girl with like, 4000+ posts. She wasn't a mod, just a regular member, but she saw herself as the "alpha female" of the forum, and I found her very intimidating. In my intro topic, she welcomed me, and then said "I'm (insert emo username I can't remember here), you'll soon get to know me. If you stay on my good side, I won't bite." So yeah, that put me off, but I later realised that she was quite aggressive towards me, disagreeing with everything I said, and when I replied as to why I thought I was right, she accused me of trying to pick a fight with her, and kept saying "You mess with the bull, you get the horns. Be careful." I got a PM from a member there, he said I wasn't to worry about her because she was up her own ass and usually chased all female members away through her aggression, but by then I had zero patience and left. Another forum, there was a girl there who constantly challenged my knowledge of Silent Hill. She was a little younger than me, and was a little... odd. Like, the forum was pretty much dead, and the few remaining posters were all mods. Her signature was something like "I'm a freakin' mod, yeah baby! Thanks so much to the admin ,thank you thank you!" Despite the fact I've played and 100%-ed all the SH games, and she had only watched Let's Plays, she constantly argued about little things, and I eventually grew tired of her and left. I've thought about joining other SH forums, but they all suck ass from what I can see. They're either filled with emo/goth people or girls who drool over Pyramid Head. Anyway, /rant. :3 I forget the point I was trying to make. So, can you give me a definition of a "Grrl Gamer"? I'm having a little trouble understanding... Is it those ones who claim to know how it all works while taking pride that they're a girl, who plays games, and this somehow makes them cooler than regular gamers? Drasiana
Yeah Red. Grrl Gamers are the special snowflakes that think tacking their gender onto one of their pastimes makes them super awesome and ~UNIQUE~ and are generally totally oblivious to actual demographic statistics. I wouldn't say that's exclusive to women. I have ranted many times in the past about people scoffing at the idea of a career in games as they said it was just a passing fad, not a real job ect. Oh, that totally happens. There's just the gender stigma pegged onto women on top of that. The video game industry apparently makes more than the film industry now though so it's really not just a "real" job now, it's an IDEAL job. Yesss. And what I mentioned in my story in that topic is that the people assuming that this needed to be a thing were 40+ year old men who WEREN'T involved in the game industry (the guys I know who are, are actually completely chill and I don't think they've ever at all mentioned the "feminine perspective" BS). And there's nothing WRONG with some games like that (I played the hell out of Barbie Riding Adventures when I was like 5, but then again, so did my brother; it was just horses FFS) but that's actually more of an age demographic thing than a gender demographic. I believe R3D had a magazine article saying that Metroid was strictly for girls because Samus is a chick or something (Other M being a stellar example of How Not To Assume Females Behave) What you call Grrl Gamers are annoiying. I'd love to meet someone in RL who doesn't just roll their eyes with disinterest when I mention games, let alone someone who is passionate about them. Grrl gamers tend to be obnoxious attention seekers in my experience, but the bigger problem is hypocracy. Explained better than I can here That article was great, I probably couldn't really say it better. Here's another good one on female characters in video games. Redeemer
A trend I have noticed though - grrl gamers tend to suck at what they do. Female gamers who can actually play to save themselves are too busy concentrating on the game to give a shit about their gender at that time. One time, I was playing Guitar Hero online, and I had the mic turned off because I didn't feel like talking. The person on the other end was a girl. I was winning, and she kept saying stuff like "Ooooh, no fair, you're so good at this! I'm just a girl!" She made a few comments, generally reminding me of how she was a girl. Then at the end, I put the mic on and said "I'm a girl too." She left. :(

I was playing SSBB with one of my female friends once, she just about kicked my ass and I barely beat her.
Guest
im a female (i hope you already know that XD) but i really understand that just because im a female player, doesnt mean im special. it means im just another regular gamer like anyone else. gender really doesnt matter when playing a game, it's how you play it. i dont say like "no fair, im just a girl" because some play better than others, some have more experience, or some just know how to play the game and i understand that perfectly. some think just because they are female that the other player will go easy on them, but the point is, it aint gunna happen. at the smash tournament, i was the only girl there and i was the youngest one too, they were all collage kids. they beat me every time, but i never complained, i had fun learning new tactics and gaining more skill that i once had. @red lol! she expected a male opponent when she got a kicka** female opponent. then she shut her trap.and btw, silent hill (WANT IT SO BAD), resident evil, call of duty, ect. shooting games are my fav's! @Star Fox Runner we should play against eachother sometime! Milkyway64
I always have wanted to change my Steam name or something to an obnoxious girly one and abuse text chat with grrl gamer speak, then go pubstomp TF2 servers to see how much people rage. I've thankfully never actually met a grrl gamer that I can remember. As Red pointed out, they tend to be terrible, so the vague memory of one I might have is unimpressive for that. Then there are girls who game casually. Like my sis. She's pretty terrible despite doing it semi regularly, but then again maybe I'm just good. Because I'm a guy. A superior guy.
