How the SFOConomy Works

DZComposer

Recommended Posts

The SFOConomy is an experiment. It may significantly change or go away all together.

Basically, the SFOConomy is a virtual economy for SFO.

The currency is the SFO Cornerian Credit, symbol ¢¢.

I am giving everyone ¢¢500 to start with to jump-start the economy.

ROB64 may send you PMs concerning the economy.

How do I make money?

- Use the forums - Start a thread, and you receive ¢¢10 plus ¢¢2 per reply. Make a post and you receive ¢¢5.

NOTE: To discourage point-whoring in the rec room, you only get half (¢¢5, ¢¢2) for threads/posts there. No post reward for thread starters.

NOTE: DO NOT SPAM. Spamming for credits can lead to fines of up to ¢¢500/post.

- Save - You can buy a savings account from one of the two banks. Both banks pay interest. Bank of Lylat pays more interest, but costs more to buy into.

- Invest - You can currently invest in annuities or stocks. I may add more investments later. There is an IPO item in the shop. Buy this, and I will create a stock for you so others can invest in you! Note: IPOs cannot be traded or sold.

- Play the lottery - There is a weekly lottery drawing! ¢¢30 per ticket. If there is no winner, then the jackpot rolls-over. Scratch-offs can also be purchased in the store.

- Take out a loan - Both banks offer loans. Note that these must be repaid.

- Donate to SFO's Hosting - Donors get a ¢¢200 bonus for helping the community.

The two banks:

Corneria City Savings and Loan

CC Savings and Loan is a small S&L that provides reasonable services at a reasonable price. It also provides "free" checking, meaning you don't have to pay a fee to withdraw funds from the account.

Bank of Lylat

This is the big bank. The entry fee for checking accounts is much less that the S&L, but there is a withdraw fee. The bank is traded on the stock market, symbol BLT. You can take out larger loans from BLT, and also buy a 100 day annuity from them.

Stocks:

Stocks are re-valued daily. There are currently four stocks:

SFO Forum Posts (SFP) - Invest in the number of posts on the forums.

New Member Registrations (NMR) - Invest in new member registrations to SFO.

SFO Cornerian Credits (SCC) - Invest in ¢¢ itself.

Bank of Lylat (BLT) - This stock's performance depends on a random number generator.

The Shop:

In the shop you can buy (eventually) many items. There are three types of items in the shop:

Collectibles - These items appear as little images on your profile. They do not do anything.

Profile Items - These items alter your profile

Cash Items - These items can give (or take away) ¢¢!

I'm liking where this is going. It'll motivate me to actually post more, and to make one of those debate topics I've had floating around in my head for a while but never gotten around to making.

I bought a lottery ticket. I ended up getting a title changer for 15cc less than normal.

Oh yeah, and I got one of those limited edition items.

I know this idea at least has me wanting to do a whole lot more posting than I usually do. I just hope I can pull it off without just letting my posts degenerate into desperate moneygrabs.

Also, could it be possible to implement a feature that rewards more money for posting in more inactive forums? I know you've already got a penalty in place for the Rec Room, so maybe we could make it a bit more dynamic than that.

And maybe add a kind of proportional factor to the length of messages.

*points at people replying to all threads with "XD" and such... *

That would also be a wonderful thing, since I want to make money but I'm also afraid of turning into a spam machine just because I'm a greedy bastard. Dunno how possible any of it would be, though, so maybe I'll just have to pull through on willpower :P

Just make sure your posts are worth something, I suppose. Maybe try to hit a certain length, and if you have to force yourself to do it then ask yourself if you'll really be contributing or not. I know sometimes short posts are fine, but that's just a sort of thing you'll have to feel out for yourself.

If you spam to whore credits, you may be fined. Just putting that out there.

Current limited edition items:

The First Item - Will be disabled on Friday. Not tradable. Cannot be sold.

SFAs Wolfen - Only 20! Can be traded. Can be sold.

Items like the Sandvich and the Nyan Cat will stay around forever.

Does RP post have the same modificator as the Rec Room posts (like for the post count)?

I'm really curious to see how all this will evolve! :3

Not sure if that would be necesary, given the RP forum is pretty barren. I'd advice the strictly opposite in fact, getting more credits per post than elsewhere. Might increase the general interest in roleplaying.

How will stocks work? Do they update their value daily, or more or less frequently?

It has been said. Daily.

But I'm curious to see how much it does. As for the the fees, that's what I think of them:

rent_is_too_damn_high_RE_The_True_Art_of

I mean, 5% to buy and another 5% to sell... That means you get to reach a 10% growth of the stock price just to begin doing some profits... :/ Depending on how much stocks vary on a daily basis, that could be hard to achieve (not easy IRL already... XD)

Stocks change daily.

I'll look at those fees. Those are the defaults. I want fees, though, to discourage making a bunch of trades quickly to game the system.

EDIT: 1% to buy, 0.5% to sell.
