Lock n' Load! An airsoft thread!

Hi guys,

As the time of my flight home comes closer. I thought about how I'd occupy myself there, and a spark of epic fun lit again in my mind: Airsoft!

I checked and there's no thread here about this wonderful hobby! :o

I think that's a sain and exciting way to go outside and have some physical activity outdoor with friends (except for snipe campers! D: ) rather than staying in the dark eating chips in front of your CoD-PC!

On a personal note, I like to dress-up in "old" uniforms, that are -I believe, way more classy than the modern ones, such as WW2 and VN styled outfits.

I'll definitely get some pics/videos to share it with you! ;)

So...

Who else plays here? :3

I almost got into it, but my dad and I decided on paintball instead. Then, I moved to Virginia and all my paintball stuff is still in Kentucky.

I have a lot of friends who do it though, and they love the hell out of it.

Also was more into paintballing than airsoft myself. Don't think airsoft is particulary big in Norway at all in fact.

Of course, now it's been ages since I've broken out my paintball gear as well.

*Checks NYC laws*

"New York City requires that all realistic toy or imitation firearm be made of clear or brightly colored plastics; furthermore, New York City makes possession of any air pistol or air rifle or similar instrument in which the propelling force is a spring or air, unlawful without a license. See New York City Administrative Code § 10-131(b) and New York City Administrative Code § 10-131(g)(1)(a)[3]."

I hate this city >.<

Aw... That sucks man! :/

Just the fact to be obliged to have an orange tip by the way...

Is it hard to get a license for it?

[i know right; especially coming from the state of Georgia with it's, by comparison, lax regulation! XD]

I'm not entirely sure, but judging how much bullshit you have to jump through to get anything done in this city, I imagine it's an arduous and somewhat costly process.

I think it even may be similar to the hoops you'd have to jump through to obtain an actual-firearm license, and that process is RIDICULOUS [in NYC's jurisdiction].

You americans are crazy! :D

In most european countries, being over 16~18 years old is enough... And we don't put ugly orange tips on our replicas! XD

[Note to self; move to somewhere with lax regulation,]

At least there's no law in most states to actually *keep* that orange-tip on the gun once it's purchased. That, and obtaining -actual- firearms is easier in most of the states as well ^_^

Ahh airsoft.

It's a very fun game. I remember me and my cousins going and shooting each other with Airsoft guns in only short shorts :P

Airsoft = Win! :D

Those faux IMI Desert Eagle and M4A1 Carbine makes me weep.

As for me, I never got into paintball or airsoft. I tend to avoid things that can cause pain (barring accidents), and find it difficult to get into firing airsoft weapons after firing real ones. Just doesn't seem satisfying without the report, the kick, the ejection, the smell of the powder, and so on. I love it so. Also why I didn't get into laser tag (no offense, User). Just not my cup of tea.

That being said, something I could easily get into is if there were recreational MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) centers. For those that don't know, MILES is a military training tool, basically it's real weapons loaded with blanks and special laser emitters, and is quite advanced. It can simulate ricochets and what not, so you can fire into a room, and take out teammates or yourself due to ricochets.

The Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System or MILES is used by the US military and other armed forces around the world for training purposes. It uses lasers and blank cartridges to simulate actual battle.

Individual soldiers carry small laser receivers scattered over their bodies, which detect when the soldier has been illuminated by a firearm's laser. Each laser transmitter is set to mimic the effective range of the weapon on which it is used. When a person is "hit", a medic can use the digital readout to determine which first aid method to practice.

Different versions of MILES systems are available both within the US and internationally. The capabilities of the individual systems can vary significantly but in general all modern systems carry information about the shooter, weapon and ammunition in the laser. When this information is received by the target, the target's MILES system determines the result of the 'hit' using a random number roll and a table lookup. As a result a MILES emulating an M16 rifle cannot destroy an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), but could still kill a commander visible in the hatch of the vehicle. Vehicles are typically outfitted with a belt of laser sensors while dismounted troops often wear a vest or harness with sensors as well as a 'halo' of sensors on their helmets. Often these MILES systems are coupled with a real-time datalink allowing position and event data to be transmitted back to a central site for data collection and display. More sophisticated systems for tanks and APCs exist that use various techniques (including scanning lasers and coupled radio systems) to allow more precise targeting of armored vehicles.

Coincidentally, MILES is also the Latin word for soldier.

MILES is just an advanced laser tag! :troll:

Well... Since I like operating firearms, but not killing people, I found airsoft to be the best compromise. Laser Tag is fine too, but I don't like having the impression that I land hits most of the time, but not exactly enough for the receivers to toggle. This is rather frustrating I think. When you play airsoft, any hit on an opponent is a winning hit, 'nuff said! :P

I agree you don't have the same sensations than with real firearms, but as progress goes, GBB handguns and GBB rifles gets better kick recoil impression. And that's cool! :D

Ok, I got a hold on some airsoft photos of mine:

Those are some pretty sweet. I recently got to play airsoft. I will tell you definitely alot better then rubber bullets or chalk bullets in the sense of pain.

But for this exercise it was me with the military and ex military team (6) vs a large amount of people. We served as a SEAL team and at least 20 of them were trying to stop us from extracting, oh man oh man. I crawled through prickers and bushes to saved my downed team mates (I was the team medic due to my Search and Rescue training) My arm is still recovering xD

Then we did another simulation which was known as the meatgrinder. (Basically a D-Day type thing. I was the first up the hill and took out a good portion of the people on the defending team.
