Retro Studios and Star Fox

Star Fox Runner

Recommended Posts

I think we had a discussion about this a long while back, but I thought it would be nice to bring it up again.

Whenever I'm on other forums or gaming news sites, and the topic of what Retro Studios should work on next comes up, almost always there are a group of people clamoring for them to work on the Star Fox series.

I personally think they are an excellent fit for that job, they resurrected Metroid after an eight year hiatus, same with Donkey Kong Country, and I've heard that their work on co-developing Mario Kart 7 was excellent as well. Star Fox needs some love, and I mean console love, so what more capable hands to leave it in than a company with such a good track record? Especially with the Wii U on the horizon, Metroid Prime STILL looks amazing graphically, so imagine what Retro could do with Star Fox on an HD console!

So what do you all think? Is Retro Studios a good fit for Star Fox or isn't it?

Retro Studios is one of the best in house developers Nintendo has. Assuming Nintendo doesn't lose them like they did Rareware, they could very well and easily pull off a Starfox revival, and I'd be all for that.

I'd love that too. Retro Studios only has hits on its board and seems to specialize in successful revivals! :)

Well Everyone. Why dont we all write to retro studios and request they do it? That way we can increasethe chances of a nice starfox revival! :D

Retro said in April they were working on something "everyone wants them to do." I sure hope it is Star Fox. Zelda? Sure, I'd take that. But Retro is good at reviving series. Donkey Kong Country Returns?! Awesome. Metroid Prime 1, 2, 3, all awesome. Now even their work on Mario Kart 7 was brilliant. (Mostly DK related assets and some track designs, but still)

I would love for them to try Star Fox. I don't see what could possibly go wrong. Just don't make it handheld and you're good to go. Wii U Star Fox… in HD. With a good story (Retro's specialty) and great gameplay (another Retro specialty).

:D

Right now, Nintendo needs to tread water carefully, and I mean CAREFULLY with the SF series. Its on the edge of dying, as much as those words pain me to say. Ive said before Retro can bring anything back from the dead, and with starfox at the awkward position of a post re-release era, things are even more unstable. If they can bring back metroid, they've got Starfox in the bag, problem is nintendo needs to give them an ok.

All Starfox needs is a canon reboot. Fuck everything that's not SF64.

Retro Studios is absolutely amazing. I'd LOVE to see them make a Star Fox game. Everything they've touched so far is gold.

Metroid Prime is especially a masterpiece and one of my all time favorite games.

F-Zero

Now there is something I didn't think of. F-Zero… from Retro Studios. Sounds interesting. We haven't had an F-Zero game in so long.

Forget that, where's my Wave Race for the Wii?! 3DS? DS? Wii U?

You have chosen poorly -

Retro Studios working on either Star Fox or F-Zero would be incredible IMO, though it would take more than that for me to purchase the Wii-U. I'll wait to see how the next generation of consoles plays out before anything.

You know.

Retro doing F-Zero makes me more excited than Starfox.

And the last console F-Zero (GX) was made by Sega, and it was golden.

Hell, I still play it to this day.

Bit off topic, but I don't understand. :-P

[Wave Race on N64 is partially famous for the fact that a single cheat-code was not discovered for nearly 9 years; it changes the announcer voice and makes him make incredibly sarcastic and adds snark-y comments. :-P]

F-Zero was incredible on Gamecube; it was incredibly fun to play and the multiplayer worked nicely. If that could be done in HD, as well as some of Nintendo's other 'forgotten' series, I'd have to rethink my stance on Nintendo at the moment! :-)

Metroid Prime was EPIC (But a little to hard for my taste) I'd be so happy it Retro was doing StarFox.

Found on a french video games website's article:

«After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.»

These words are Retro Studio's, quoted from the lastest issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine. That actually sounds like a Starfox reference to me! :D

No, no, no, don't do Star Fox, Retro! We NEED Metroid Prime 4. Don't seriously leave us all in the dark with the super blatant ending scene that just spelled SEQUEL,

J/k, while Metroid Prime 4 would be better than anything IMO, Retro doing Star Fox is just what the series needs. I hope this is really true. :D

I mean, if that's legit; a lot of foreign magazines talk about NEW STARFAC GAME all the time and it turns out to be false but hey, have some giddy old ladies in the meantime

@Crazy: Why don't you want to buy the Wii U? :o

Also, it's not just a French website. It was in the official Nintendo magazine. From what I gather, those weren't "Retro's words" but rather, ONM's words regarding the Retro interview in the magazine.

Still, very interesting.

I'm sure we'll get to see whatever it is they're up to at E3 this year… but that's still 5 months away. D:

I'm not entirely sure I'd like to delve back into Nintendo again; the Wii was an extreme letdown for me and I'd prefer to only have to purchase one home console per generation. That would most likely be a Sony console; great exclusives, multiplatform titles, and overall consumer loyalty. Not to mention the Wii-U seems a bit gimmicky with the tablet controller and compatability for Wii peripherals. I guess I'll have to see how things play out before I actually judge though. ^_^
