Do You Suffer For Delicious

Redeemer

Tonight I made curry from scratch, completely. It was damn good but holy hell I'm actually suffering. Even R3d had to take breaks and left a little on his plate it was so damn spicy, and he's the one that has spicy food in his Iranian/Assyrian culture. They sit and eat those tiny green insane-peppers like candy.

I've been complaining that I'm too warm for 4 hours, I'm flushed in the face and I'm generally whining about how uncomfortable I am in my own skin thanks to this shit-ton of lava dinner. Yet it was exactly as spicy as I wanted it. Yet I kept drinking and cleaning my nose and eyes as I ate. Yet I enjoyed it.

Why?

What do you guys eat that literally makes you suffer later on? Do you ever avoid things that you like just because of the after effects?

Btw any jokes about the second burn and I swing my squeaky ban hammer.

If it counts for anything, whenever I have fast food (ie: McD or Burger King) I feel sick to my stomach. Although it could be the size of the soda that does that....nah, it's probably the good old grade-D meat. So thats why I stick to crummy fake fish sandwiches when I go there now.

Oddly enough, I never got a sick feeling from eating at any other fast food place

Holy Hell, for me its Jalapenos. Burns my lips like Satan's fire coated spit I'll tell ya. I literally shower myself in milk for two days.

On the inside that would be just about ALL fast food.

Of course it is really anything that is spicy.  Jalapenos, habanero (Oh dear sweet Cthulhu McDonalds habanero bacon burgers...), Sriracha, Tabasco...If I am not near the verge of tears then it isn't spicy enough.

I do recall the first time I had Tabasco sauce though, but mostly for the fact that I spent the rest of the night curled up in a ball in tears from the indigestion I was suffering.  Now I have a stomach lined with steel!  And the tongue and diaphragm of a wuss :(

I will suffer for green tamales. Holy shit they are hot, especially if you manage to get a bite of the pepper they're made of, but SO good. I will also suffer through regular red tamales... I really like tamales.

I had some curry last Tuesday (? I dont remember) night and I wish it had been spicy as hell, because it just made me sick as a dog. I've been nauseated ever since. We've been back to that same place twice and I am never eating their curry again good god.

Cake, namely the kind with super rich frosting. I end up getting the worlds most awful stomachache.

This.

This right here.

I love this stuff, Yet it's so damn spicy. I will eat it straight from spoons sometimes. Sometimes my friends find me on the ground, with tears streaming from my face in the fetal position. Empty bottles are scattered across my kitchen floor.

Other than that give it a try.

Any time I go to Subway, I walk away with enough jalapenos on my sandwich to start a forest fire. I regret it when it goes in, and I regret it the next day as well, but it's so good I just can't help myself. Also, McDonald's. For the sake of not grossing everyone out, I'll just say that while I fucking love just taking 10 bucks to McDs and buying a load of dollar menu stuff, it does NOT agree with me most of the time.

Also, the moment I saw the title of this thread I knew it was about the curry you mentioned on Facebook, lol

Why you making me get rid of all my material, Red?

Oh boy, you talking spicy. Well shit, since I'm here...

I love most spicy stuff, I don't care (mostly) how I will end or how the "aftermath" will be. But it depends. It's not only about the spiciness; flavor of the thing also is important to me. I don't like Tabasco or canned (jarred?) jalapeños (unless you can make them taste non-jarred). Other than that and some exceptions I can't remember, I'm all in for spice. Peppers, Hot sauces, Wasabi... come to papa.

I know how to minimize wasabi burn if interested. Also I remember one time my grandma confused it for avocado...

Five Guys were the first joint I saw using fresh, raw jalapeños for their burgers... I fell in love... Might marry them for the Greencard...

As avoiding things... Probably the local frozen yogurt self serve. It's the only one in the city and after a "falling out" one dark night, I've been avoiding it ever since. It's only there; never happened to me anywhere in the US, and it might've been only that instance but it might have to be a while before I test it again.

This stuff right here is so good but pretty damned spicy. I always end up with more drinks than food when I have it so I also end up feeling sick afterwards because of that. But fuck it if I don't love every moment of it.

Also I used to live across the street from a Chinese restaurant operated by a man and his wife, and I don't know if y'all know this but I am a sucker and a half for wonton soup, especially wor wonton soup, and that place put so many spices in the soup it had a grainy texture, as if the soup was full of silt. Best fucking wonton soup I have ever had but I damn near choked to death on the broth the first time I had it, let alone the spices.

And also, two stories from when I was a younger lad. Starting in middle school, they had some spicy chicken sangwiches (you heard me right, sangwich, because fuck spelling), and these had jalapeno powder in both the breading on the chicken and in the cheese on it, and you know how spicy works with carbonated beverages, right? Makes it much worse. So for $1.50 we'd get a chicken sangwich and a can of soda (my choice was always root beer), then we'd take turns and eat a sangwich as fast as we could, then chug the soda while everyone else gets to laugh at the person who just did its reaction because we were stupid. This is also how we learned that Brisk iced tea beats the ever living shit out of spicyness. Need to end a burn? Brisk iced tea.

Fast forward a few years and I'm in my... third, high school, I believe, and I have a rockabilly friend named Rex. He wanted me to buy him some sushi rolls from the store we went to for lunch and in exchange he would put the entire packet of wasabi on a single roll and eat it. So I did, and so he did. To this day I have not seen someone turn that shade of red in my life. That crazy commie...

Spicy food, I like it to a point, and I don't seriously regret it afterwards, so that won't cut it for this thread.

But the food I regret eating, but enjoyed, is an Asian food all you can eat buffet. Last time I went to one, I ate at least 3 whole plates of food, plus desert. It was so good, but at about 3 am, I woke up with stomach pains, and I couldn't get back to sleep., most likely because of how much food I ate. It lasted for almost 2 days. I would still eat there though, but probably eat a little less.

Oh you just reminded me, Kiloshi, of another problem I have!

LACTOSE INTOLERANCE

Let's look at Redeemer's favourite foods:

  • cheese
  • yoghurt
  • milk
  • milkshakes
  • ice cream

One night I had Persian cuisine that R3d's mother cooked. It was amazing. It consisted of lamb, rice, and yoghurt to put on top. I just had as much as I wanted, with spices and raw onions, nom nom nom. Oh yeah I love raw onion. But anyway, that night, I had the most awful cramps in my stomach. Like, the pain was so intense I started crying and I was sweating so much, and I was writhing in my bed to try and ease it, and eventually I started shaking.

I was genuinely concerned at that point and I said to R3d, "shit I might have to go to hospital, please be ready to help me get changed" because I had no idea that lactose intolerance could cause so much agony. Usually I get a grumbly tummy and bloating but that's all. This time, I thought I either had appendicitis, or I was having a seizure. I was absolutely convinced I was suffering something very serious.

This kind of hell continued on until about 4am. R3d stayed awake with me the whole time and I'm pretty sure that by the end of it, every bone in his hand was broken. xD

I love spicy foods.  Jalapenos, Habaneros, I even tried a Ghost Pepper once(NEVER.  AGAIN.)

Most of the time I don't seriously regret spicy chili, spicy soup, spicy meat.  But let me tell you about my Ghost Pepper experience.

Before I go on, it's worth noting that the Ghost Pepper(Bhut Jolokia) is one of the world's hottest chili peppers, at 330,000-1,032,310 scovilles.  That's 400 times the spice of frickin Tabasco sauce.  It's only superceded by the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion(All of these hot peppers have scary names), which just about doubles it at 2 MILLION scovilles.  Yeah, screw that.

Anyway!  My friend had bought a few ghost peppers online, and invited me over to make chili with him.  These peppers were so potent, we couldn't even slice them up to cook the chili, it was bothering our eyes and pores so badly.  Eventually with the chili cooked though, it wasn't as bad.  We made a chili con carne with the usual beef, beans, sweet peppers, and some jalapenos, but then came the Ghost Pepper.  We didn't even add much, just like, one pepper to a rather large pot, and I was on the floor, in so much pain, I couldn't speak for most of that day.  At first, it's all "Oh, this is really good, I don't know what people are talking about with the Ghost Pepper" And eventually it goes "Ha, Ghost Pepper my ass, this isn't too hot, in fa-OH MY GOD GET IT OUT, HOLY SHIT I'M GOING TO DIE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!"  But, I finished my bowl, unlike my friend.

That sounded like it did suck, but how did his hand possibly get broken?

She was squeezing it so hard, his fingers almost became the first Human fingers to reach Mars.

NOW I understand.

And speaking of spicy (With what Arashikage said), I like to cook, and I once made a spicy ramen that my cousin from Texas said was the spiciest thing he has eaten by far. I only used a regular ramen (I don't remember the flavor), and I added cayenne pepper and chili flakes, that i'm sure about, but I can't remember if I added a habanero pepper with it or not...

And one time in high school, a friend of mine made me mad because she told me to try some kind of pepper she had with the lunch she brought. It was long and had a deep maroon color, and when I ate it, it hurt and made it kind of hard to breath, and then I got mad.

While we're talking about spicy as hell peppers, when I still worked at a Japanese restaurant, the owner made curry for us, and me being a moron, saw something that looked like a pepper, thought "this can't be that hot", and put it in my mouth. I had to run to the kitchen and slosh water around in my mouth for half an hour. I have no idea what kind of pepper it was, but it's one of those that you do NOT put more than one of in a gigantic pot of curry. It gave the curry a lovely tang, but don't eat the pepper by itself. They laughed at me for the longest time afterwards.

On New Year's Eve I went to Cheesecake Factory and got the spicy chicken jambalaya. My dad tried some and it was far too spicy for him, but I ate the whole thing.

Around 3 AM I woke up and proceeded to fill the hotel toilet with spicy chicken stomach acid. Ended up just kind of curled up on the floor shaking. Not sure if too spicy or just food poisoning but. Also had to go to Knott's Berry Farm the next day. Still rode all the coasters.

Not sure if worth it.

I just eat a lot of really spicy food. Jalapeno chocolate chip cookies are a favorite. Also don't be a pansy and leave the seeds out. LOVE THE BURN. DIE FOR THE BURN.

Otherwise I really like stupidly sugary candy and deep fried things, as any true American would. Deep fried Twinkies are god-tier. Chocolate dipped Twinkies are also legendary.

We should just have a thread for ridiculous food reviews. That would be great.

Huh, this seriously sounds like a problem I have occasionally. Wonder if i'm allergic to something.
