Star Fox: The Mimic

Zeke listened intently, just as most of the others had been doing at the moment.  He hadn't been aware that certain models of these flight recorders had cameras, it would have been much more beneficial to have video, but at least the audio was bound to give them some clue as to what had happened.  Chills ran down his spine, he wasn't sure if it was just listening to the recording, or something else, but he felt that the hushed and worried atmosphere was finally getting to him.

'Huh? I thought we were leaving this crappy ship...' Norman thought as he grew a little impatient on waiting to get out of the ship. He decided to climb out of the escape pod and happened to see some more people, some in escape pods...the others, he didn't know and were not in the escape pod.

As he looked at the newcomer, something went wrong in the escape pod he was in eariler, the control panels were detached from inside and the pod stopped to operate, making some electricity sounds as if someone was chewing some wires.

"Oh...fiddlesticks." He said to himself and sighed. Now how was he going to leave now?

Steve stood in front of Zeke. Now that the video is disabled, He need not to lean to listen to the audio recod of what happened. He folded his arms, his eyes on the recorder, with a little frown on his face, eagerness and excitement spreading to every particle and nerve of his body.

(Thanks for the reminder Asper! :) )

Freya swallowed nervously and held her breath. There were hints of voices in the static, but they were mostly the usual stuff you hear during flight. Star Fox were exchanging commands, and chatting normally. She fast forwarded the recording, to the point where they seemed to return from their mission.

Fox: Alright guys, let's get the hell outta here!

Falco: You got that right, furball, I ain't spending another second on this shit heap of a planet! I mean what the hell!

Peppy: Ready for launch!

Slippy: Engaging thrusters! We're ready to go!

Fox: Alright... God... We made it...

Falco: Yeah, we made it by the skin of our goddamned teeth! What the hell was going on down there? What were those things?!

Fox: I don't know, and I don't care. We need a new protocol for when replying to distress signals. We just walked right into a trap this time.

Slippy: Scanning ship for threats...

Peppy: Clear.

Fox: We have to report this as soon as we get back.

Falco: Ugnh...

Fox: What?

Falco: Aaargh...

Fox: Falco? Oh shit, SHIT! FALCO!

Peppy: Fox, get away from there!

Falco: Nghaaaaaaaaa...

Slippy: We can't save him! We have to go! Fox!

Fox: He's got me! He's got - nyaaaaaah! Aaaagh!

Peppy: Fox! Slippy, get the gun!

Slippy: I can't, I can't!

Peppy: They're not Fox and Falco anymore! Shoot them!

The recording stopped, leaving more cold, empty static. Freya sighed, and looked around. She was speechless.

Anna stared at the recording, the static serving as a white noise while she thought. She swallowed hard and looked up, realizing that this thing probably possesses people. She glanced nervously through the small crowd of people, eyes stopping on Freya whom was the only one she trusted.

As the recording ended, Zeke slowly but surely lifted his gaze from the floor, to those around him.  ".W-.....what a way to go.......", he solemnly stated; quite out of character for him.  He shivered gently at the thought of recreating the scene, and from the atmosphere around them.  "...We need to get off of this damned thing, sooner than later".  He still couldn't bring himself to grasp the fate that team Star Fox, the galaxy's renowned heroes, met.

"Damn...." Kage absently said, his mind was elsewhere, Team Star Fox, fellow mercenaries, were dead, all of them, and it was just too hard to grasp.  Of course he'd heard of them before, they're pretty famous, but... now something was wrong, they were just gone...  "What... the... hell..." He said, massaging his temples, he looked around, if this thing could possess Fox and Falco, who's to say one of them weren't it either?  Who's to say they weren't all it.  There could be more than one, but he remained seated at that moment.  It would be pointless to just go around shouting empty accusations.

'Wha...what was that? Sounds like one of the Starfox crew is getting attacked by something else other than a virus here...but what?' Norman wondered to himself and looked at his destroyed escape pod...although he couldn't remember what caused it to lose all of it's power and get busted down, he was worried that it was going to happen to everyone else's escape pods...but he was a little afraid once he warned one of them about his pod that was mysteriously destoryed, they wouldn't believe him and wait for the invetible to happen.

"Uh guys...we better leave now. I mean now! One of the escape pods I was in was destroyed by something and whatever destroyed the pod is probably going to go after your guys's pods too." He said, hoping someone would at least listen to him.

Steve heard the warning and wondered who talked. He leaned his head out of the pod and saw someone just outside one of the escape pods. He took the warning and turned to the others inside the escape pod.

"I think this can wait." He gestured toward the black box. "Because we've just been warned and I don't think it to be good if we don't do it. Let's get outta this pod."

"They..." Gearhart spoke out, his eyes open as he now held some of his attention on the black box. "They all... Were murdered without even a challenge..." He mumbled, then looked to Freya. "We need to get out of her as fast as possible. It is obviously worse than we thought."

"Exactly!" Steve said, looking at all of them. "If this thing could eliminate Star Fox (his voice shook as he said it), It certainly could do the same to us! You launch this escape pod and set it to go somewhere safe!" Steve pointed to the pod's control pads.

"We're the only ones who knew what happened to them, so what are you waiting for?! I'm going to fly by the pod."

Steve was hard pressed to cover his shock of what happened. Whatever happened to Star Fox was horrible, Steve thought, and he didn't want anybody else to share their terrible fate.

He got out of the pod and went towards his ship.

"Wait a second!" Anna yelled, pausing as everyone's attention shifted to her. After a few seconds, she remembered that she had something to say. "This thing sounds like it can... can possess people. Or corrupt them. Remember what Peppy said?" She hesitated before going on. "I'm- I'm not taking off in this thing with any of you until I know for sure all of you are safe."

Kage shrugged, "I just got here so..." He said.  He couldn't have been one, could he?  He did just get there, and he damn well knew he wasn't one, but that wasn't to say that nobody suspected him, and with that said, he remained quiet.

Freya blinked and realised that Anna was right. There was no way to tell if anyone was infected.

"Oh my god, Anna, I could be infected! Oh god! Oh god, I don't even know how to tell!" she shrieked.

"Wait, now hold on here, how would you not know?  I'm sure there's some way to tell if you have been, I mean, something can't just sneak into your body and take over without you knowing right?" Kage reasoned, trying to calm Freya down

"I don't know..." Freya responded, "You heard the black box. Falco seemed perfectly fine before he..." She tried not to think about what happened to him. The thought of him morphing into something hideous terrified her. It could happen to anyone. She prayed that she was not the host of such a creature.

"I'm sure you're fine" He assured, "I mean, nothing's happened yet right?  Wouldn't this be an opportune time to attack if you were a host?  I mean here we all are in an enclosed space..." Damn, just the thought gave him the shivers, him, the mercenary that's seen wars, and he's afraid of monsters?  Okay maybe a little, but he would stand by his new friends, just as he did for his team.

"Well we can't just sit here and think about it, right?  Let's cross that bridge when we come to it", Zeke suggested, hoping that this notion would convince them.  He knew that one of the worst things to happen during times of crisis was panic.  Nothing ever good came of it, and nothing good ever would have.  Suddenly things began to go dark...everything began to fade.  He subsequently dropped to the floor on all fours panting heavily.

'Well shit' Kage thought, "Hey buddy, you okay?" He asked to Zeke, Could this be what happened when a person turned into one of them?  Perhaps not, but Kage kept his rifle pointed upward, his hand on the grip and finger ready to slide to the trigger if need be, just in case, he stayed ready, alert, eyes peeled, frosty.

Gearhart took note of everything, and only for one moment did a flinch of fear enter his body. Zeke's pulse, his heart rate... he thought, knowing action had to be taken. "Move back from Zeke!" He shouted, going over too Zeke with speed.

There are only so many protection in the anatomy of a fox, and the neck it too vital... Ran through his mind as he went for an opening. His knowledge of human anatomy only helping him greatly to his pressure point attacks. He went, and attempted to press one harshly on Zeke's neck, and try to knock him out with an assault of his hand on the back of his head. Not lethal, but enough to knock a man out of his size. Although, this was, -if- Zeke's anatomy wasn't already starting to alter. If it had, Gearhart's position was in line for a perfect opening.

Freya leapt to Zeke, and knealt down to his level.

"Zeke!" she cried out, "Zeke are you alright?! Can you hear me?? He has a high fever... We need a med kit!"

She placed her hands around Zeke's face, letting him know she was still there.

"I may be insane here but there is no way in hell I can be infected!" Norman shouted out, seeing as everything started to go dark, saw Zeke pass out and...well, time may be running short.

"I'm going to check one of those pods that could contain a med-kit. Just wait here!" He said, making a quick stop to check each one of the escape pods to see if any med-kits were inside...they should be at least.

Zeke slowly looked upward at the group attempting to help him, but things were different about him this time.  His teeth were bared in a menacing fashion, and his eyes were completely milky white.  A low growl emitted from his throat shortly before he attempted to lunge at Gearhart.  Nothing seemed to faze "it", whether it was the rifleman close by, or the other ones around.

Shit! It's in him!- He thought before the lunge got to him, knocking him back, but he stayed on his feet. Gearhart was a hefty guy, and not to be taken down easily. "Don't kill him!" He shouted, attempting his best to get Zeke into a more dominant hold, as if to help knock his body out of energy, taking positions from many pressure points into his plan.
