you know what to be quite fair if something like Spongebob Squarepants or Fairly Oddparents or My Little Pony can support a, um, robust and apparently sincere fandom of unforgivable pornographers, i don't think it really matters whether or not Renamon has tits. it's not really about the character, it's about the fetishes that get grafted onto it. so it doesn't really say anything about Renamon or Krystal or Spongebob or Timmy or Fluttershy that they become part of all these fetishes.

That doesn't even make any sense. People saw Renamon and thought "hey, that would look great with gigantic boobs and a pregnancy fetish". It wasn't a case of "wow, what a strong female character, I really appreciate what her strength of character does for this show and female characters like her" that went horribly awry after finding porn of Disney's Robin Hood. And then, where did that Robin Hood porn come from? I don't think Disney designed him or Maid Marian as sex symbols, either. Furries don't care if they can fap to it.

Basically what I'm saying here is the copious, disturbing amounts of Renamon porn don't exactly back the theory that the fandom loves her for her personality...regardless of whether or not she's a better character than Krystal (she is)

And I'm not entirely sure why you brought up Zig Zag, considering she owns a porn studio and probably isn't the best example to use to compare to characters from children's media.

As this post and the others show, we are all in agreeance, but srsly now, Renamon is really popular, and I'm sure not everyone in that fanbase has that weird fetish. Fanart did it, but the fact that she's actually an okay character is what brought in fanboys to see it, and then it got bigger, and so on.

Never did I say everyone was in love with her character, and I -know- Zig Zag runs a porn studio, children's media isn't the subject of discussion. It's furry sex symbols, like Zig Zag is.

Yeah but I'm not sure why you brought her up because we were talking about whether or not Renamon is popular despite her unintended sex appeal, wheras Zig Zag is based entirely on sex appeal.

What brought the fanboys to see Renamon was the fact that she's a fox and (in some dubs) a female. If I tried to apply your arguement to Krystal you'd have an episode, yet Krystal is of equal if not greater popularity and we know it's not because she's a good character. The idea of Renamon porn wasn't exactly reprehensible to the girthy demographic of those who draw it from the get-go.

Oooh, I was meaning more Sabrina, who I know has tons of dirty fanart as well despite pretty much being the Renamon to Krystal's Zig Zag. Although in retrospect it's still stupid because Zig Zag still has more character than Krystal and Sabrina is clearly adorkable.

I think its Renamon's androgyny that ads some appeal to furies. Because of that they can fit her into any fetish, in any gender, that they like.

If there were no furries whatsoever at a Star Fox fansite... I'd be surprised beyond belief.

Wouldn't call me a furry, no. Can appreciate -some- of the art and a lot of the people in the fandom are good people, but you wouldn't find me at a con.

A very interesting insight on the "furry-ness", presented at its origin as a bond formed between people and the spirit of an animal, through ownership or not, and that fractures the distinction between human beings and beings in general.

I found the edito touching and well written, and put things far away from any kind of worshipping or denouncing tones usually used to describe the furries and anthro art (without using the former term).

The timing of that article was kind of funny to me, seeing as this topic popped up not too long ago. I'm not sure I completely agree with it though, seeing as a lot of the time anthros just end up being stand-ins for people because they can be more interesting to look at, with just as much deceit as human societies have. I don't really understand what this means, "...the best of what it is to be dog, cat, fox, wolf, bear or other brother being" so if anyone has any ideas about that I'd love to hear it. Not to be critique-y of the article, I did think it was well-written and a nice opportunity to promote some artists.

Yeah, I caught that too. Very well written and thoughtful, and it also showcased some of my favorite anthro art pieces.

I think it was meant to point at animal features, usually attached to the images of the mentioned species. You know, like fidelity for dogs etc... But I believe people use these as stand-ins as you say for more physical attributes as ressemblance or affinity.

Yeah, fidelity for dogs, cleverness for the fox, agility for the cat, bloodlust and companionship for the wolf, etc. Just kind of the traits associated with that animal, although I can say from personal experience that foxes IRL are certainly quite clever.
