Krystal Adventures - WarCraft III Mod

Hello! Have a nice day, everyone!

I want to tell here about a custom campaign for "WarCraft III The Frozen Throne" I'm currently working on. It is a Starfox spin-off, RPG/Adventure-styled campaign "Krystal Adventures".

The story takes place before the events of "Star Fox Adventures" and tells about Krystal's past. It will be connected with the plot of "Adventures" andI I will try to fix some plotholes of SFAd. (such as origin of Sauria's ruins, Andross' appearance on the planet and some others) I also use characters from original "Dinosaur Planet" - Sabre and Randorn. Krystal and Sabre will be the main playable characters.

Of course, this project is not Sci-fi, it is much closer to fantasy style of "Adventures".

I've finished the first map already, so it can be considered as a demo-version. The map can be downloaded on "Krystal Archive", http://krystalarchiv...ronekrystalmod/ I'm very thankful to Mr.Krystal for posting it there. It reqiures WarCraft III TFT v.1.26a or higher.

Since I'm not native English-speaker, dialogs and descriptions may look rough and I will be grateful for any help in the improvement of the text.

Also I would appreciate if anyone helps me with the voice acting.

This is the news I wanted to tell you. I hope you like this project and I'm open to any critiques, suggestions or questions.

Thank you very much! I remember you too! :-)

Yes, I even uploaded some earlier screenshots on DA but I didn't want to post more info anywhere else until I had more finished material.

I have to say that sounds pretty interesting. A SFAd mod for Warcraft III. Would they have custom lines or recycled from the game?

Thank you. I'm sorry, what lines do you mean?

I mean are there going to be lines from voice actors and such or just stock lines from Adventures re-used.

Well, since this this mod is a prequel to SFAd, it has custom storyline and I can't use old lines from Adventures. I'm going to add voices to the game and currently looking for voice actors to help me dub the dialogs.

Very cool, now I'm glad a friend let me have his copy of the game. :U

And what kind of voicing roles need to be filled?

Very cool, now I'm glad a friend let me have his copy of the game. :U

And what kind of voicing roles need to be filled?

Here is the list of main roles:

1)Krystal - main playable character

2)Sabre - warrior, second playable character

3)Randorn - old wizard (sometimes playable, but not very often)

4)Andross

5)Kreldok - warlord, one of main antagonists. A worked over version of General Scales actually

6)Kazragor - another antagonist. An old warlock, Kreldok's sidekick

7)Balrias - wizard, leader of council

Also there are many minor characters. For the first map I need:

1)Trolls (male)

2)Dryads and their leader Ariana (female)

3)Sorcerer (male)

4)Shallow Ones (fishmen, male and female) and their leader Pha'Tley (male)

5)Talking Oak (male)

6)Satyrs and their leader Hatur (male)

7)Greenskins - (orcs actually. They are also worked out analog of SharpClaws, male)

8)Forest Wisps and several other spirits (I'll also need Krazoa spirits for the next maps)

9)Gabargo - anthro bear (male)

9)Several other forest creatures (male)

10)Wartuonians (anthro canines, male and female)

I can voice several characters myself but that's not enough, of course

Dude, I will totally voice act for the trolls. And any of the other minor roles, if you need me for them. For the record, I have no voice acting experience. If that's a problem, I totally understand.

That is not a problem! Can you make some test voice acting recordings and send it to me? I can send you some game texts

Out of curiousity, are you planning on doing anything like this for other characters afterwards?

Say perhaps, Andross. We got to play as Arthas in his descent from a Prince and a Paladin fighting to save his homeland and his people, to being the Lich King, leader of the undead Scourge and the very thing he sought to destroy.

I imagine Andross' descent from a prominent scientist to one of the greatest threats the Lylat system has ever encountered would be interesting, too.

Of course I can. Send me your lines, and how any instructions on how you'd like them spoken, and I'll give it a shot. Hopefully I don't disappoint :-)

EDIT: I also noticed you said you aren't a native English speaker, so you'd like help cleaning up the in-game text and whatnot. I'd also be willing to proofread anything you'd like me too. I'm generally good at writing, so if you'd like my help with that I'll do it.

That sounds interesting! However, if I start working on something like that, it won't be soon. I must work hard on "Krystal Adventures" now and can't say for sure how long it will take to finish it yet. What will be next - we'll see! Anyway, an idea about Andross sounds good. Btw, he will play rather big role in "KA".

Thanks for the support! :-)

Currently working on the second map. Here you can see some beta screenshots from it.

NOTE: I'm using Fox McCloud's skin for Sabre, so don't be surprised.

In this mod I want to realize the idea of two playable characters, who supplement each other. First of all, Krystal is a long-range character, while Sabre is a melee fighter. Aslo, during the game they both get special abilities, which can be used in combat, but also help in passing different obstacles. On several maps Randorn will assist them.

About voice acting: I'm still searching for the voice actress for Krystal. :krystal:

It is about time to make an update.

I've finished the second map\level called "Acid Swamps" and working on the next one - "Snowfileds of Wartuon". These two levels belong to the two types of maps. "Acid Swamps" is a tunnel-like map, which characters have to cross from one end to another, avoiding obstacles and traps, defeating enemies and solving puzzles.

"Snowfields of Wartuon" is a more RPG-styled map. Heroes are free to visit different parts of the big map, they talk to NPC and carry out required and optional quests. However, obstacles, enemies and puzzles take place too. :-)

I'm trying to use maximum of WorldEditor to make gameplay as various as possible. For example, in the "Acid Swamps" I place foes which have poisoning and cursing attacks, also if characters enter local water they get damage, so they have to avoid it.

Here is another example from the next map. Polar bears are fast creatures, who cause big damage but they have little health.

http://www.starfox-online.net/uploads/monthly_04_2012/post-1538-0-51170600-1334435406.jpghttp://www.starfox-online.net/uploads/monthly_04_2012/post-1538-0-10512200-1334435431.jpg

Mammoths have strong armour, big damage, but they are very slow.

Of course, there is nothing new in such decisions, but they still work.

Also, in the "Acid Swamps" I made a Krazoa Shrine and workable Test of Observation!

Going to post more info soon. Have a good time everyone!

Here are several videos from next levels "Acid Swamps" and "Snowfileds of Wartuon". Some game models are rough, also I still have to make a model for Krazoa Spirit (I'm using standart model for Wisp from WarCraft currently), still I'm going to fix it all.

One of the troubles I faced during work is the size of the maps (about 100Mb each), which also doesn't let me gather all levels into one campaign, (to make new level automatic begin after the previous ends) at the moment each new level must be selected from "WarCraft" main menu. One of the mian reason is music imported from SFAd, however, I don't want to use default WarCraft default music, because it will have a negative effect on the game atmosphere.

The work goes on. By the end of summer I'm going to upload all completed levels.

Also, three things. One, are you planning on working on the weapon models so Krystal's staff is accurate and Sabre isn't using Frostmourne, the soul-devouring blade? Two, are you planning on messing with their actual abilities so they make a tad more sense? And three, I hope you find a voice actor (actress) for at least Krystal, as I can't stand Jainna (due to the Warcraft lore), and her voice can be a tad irksome.

1.I think I will. It really looks wierd that Sabre uses dark sword with skulls and bones on it. I've currently paused working on modeling, because Krystal's and Sabre's models are suitable enough for game and in summer I want to concentrate on creating levels. Later, however, I'm going to improve heroes' models and also I want to create several more - Krazoa Spirits and Krazoa statues, Andross, perhaps some else.

2.I plan to make their abilities bear some resemblance with SFAd abilities and also to make them useful in non-battle situations. For example, I gave Krystal frost attack becasue her staff had ice ability in SFAd. Besides battles it can be used to extinguish fire, I've already tested it and it works. Or her other ability - to create protective shields - can help characters to pass thfough some deadly zones. I'm working much on their abilities and I want them to be more than just battle skills.

3.I've already found some actors for male characters and for some female, but unfortunately Krystal still doesn't have an actress. I have some possibe variants but it is too uncertain at the moment. So, I still have to use default WarcCraft voices and Jaina's sounds young enough and her phrases sound rather neutral, without specific WarCraft words (such as "Lordaeron" etc) I hope I'll find an actress soon and then I'll finally be able to create first dubbed versions of the maps.
