    Project SFR

    By DZComposer, in Fanstuff,

    Teaser Paragraph:

SF-O Member Psy_Commando is working on a Source Engine mod currently called "Project SFR."

The mod borrows from the SNES canon and Itoh Comic in addition to the main N64 canon.

Current plans include the ability to play as a Cornerian soldier.

    From the project site:

    Description:

The goals of this mod is to recreate the style, and the feel of the first Starfox games on a more modern platform to make it accessible for newer fans of the series, and for old school StarFox fans like me.

I plan to take the best of StarFox 1(snes), 2(snes), and to a certain extent StarFox 64, and tape it all together to create an interesting continuity.

That's more or less what the "R" stands for in the name "Project SFR" or "StarFox Retro".

Multiplayer is a possibility, and you can bet on SF-O hosting at least one SFR server if it happens.

You can visit the project site here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/project-sfr/videos

Also, here is the SF-O forum thread:

Both are good sources to stay up-to-date in this project.

    Teaser Paragraph:

UPDATE: Tech news outlets are reporting that Nintendo, Sony, and EA have dropped support for SOPA! If this is true, I applaud these companies for seeing the light and the problems with this bill.

    Dear Nintendo:

Let me begin by saying that I believe that content creators have all right to defend their creations. StarFox-Online (SF-O) has always had a policy of discouraging game piracy and actively bans the distribution of pirated games through our community.

For some reason, rights holders always seem to throw a straw man argument out there that those who oppose laws like SOPA oppose protecting copyrights. This is certainly not true. Those who seek to profit from the works of others or freeload on the backs of content creators do not have the moral high-ground, and should face the consequences of their actions.

That said, the punishments should fit the crimes. Copyright law in recent years is becoming more and more strict, and in some instances copyright crimes now carry heavier sentences than violent acts, such as assault and battery. Certainly copyright infringement is less of a threat to society than physical violence, so why the sentencing incongruence?

By their very nature, fansites rely heavily on the content of the work(s) that the sites are about. While there are already legal gray-areas with fansites, SOPA presents a new danger.

Fansites are important. They serve as a word-of-mouh network of free (to the content owner) advertising. Fansite owners and community members are the MOST LIKELY to buy the product out of all possible customers. Fan networks generate hype, and their members spread the word to others.

Thankfully, Nintendo has thus far chosen not to bully their fans by filing lawsuits against fansites unless there is actually game piracy going on. I applaud Nintendo for this.

BUT, Nintendo has disappointed me with their decision to throw their support behind the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

This Infographic explains why SOPA is bad better than I can, but in a nutshell it allows the blocking of websites without the full due process of law that is the Gold Standard of the American legal system.

It also makes running a site that links to copyrighted material a felony crime, even if the links are posted by site users.

The law is so broad that sites like SF-O fall in violation of it. But it isn't just fansites like us. Even big names like Google and Facebook would be in violation of this law.

Defending copyright is one thing, but wholesale censorship is another. This bill CANNOT pass.

Nintendo, for the sake of your fans, PLEASE withdraw support for this bill until the language allowing for wholesale censorship are removed.

Copyright is important, but it is not more important than free speech. The Constitution speaks of copyright in ONLY by the words "promoting the useful arts," but it speaks of free speech much more directly: "Congress shall pass no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..." Both free speech and free press are threatened by this bill.

Nintendo Co., Ltd. may be a foreign corporation, but Nintendo of America is in the US and should understand that laws restricting these freedoms are unconstitutional and fundamentally un-American.

So, once again, I ask on behalf of Nintendo fans and internet users everywhere, please, Nintendo, rescind your support for this bill.

    Sincerely,

DZComposer - Owner and Admin of StarFox-Online

    Teaser Paragraph:

I'm not sure if it is just the early production runs that include it, but if you pick of Skyward Sword right now, you will receive a CD of orchestrated Zelda music.

Any Nintendo fan or fan of epic orchestral music who is planning on picking up Skyward Sword: this incentive to pick it up ASAP, just in case the CDs only come with early runs.

Star Fox turns 20 in 2013. Nintendo: Please do this for Star Fox, too!

Google pays tribute to Star Fox 64

    By DZComposer, in ClassicStarFox,

    Teaser Paragraph:

If you haven't already. go to Google and search for "Do a Barrel Roll" or for "Z or R Twice."

I won't spoil the surprise, but it is worth it.

Nice to see SF getting some love from Google.

Of course, it is really about the meme, but you can't honor the meme without honoring the game it came from.

    Fan Feature #1

    By Drasiana, in Fanstuff,

    Teaser Paragraph:

Hey there Star Fox fans, today marks the first of many installations that will involve featuring a specific individual for their outstanding artistic contribution to the fandom. This will include drawing, crafting, cosplaying, music, so on and so forth.

Today, I'd like to feature an artist from the drawing end of things.

This here lady is known as Audrey Morris. I stumbled upon her work shortly after starting a Star Fox Tumblr (seriously folks check it out, submit, etc /shamelessplug) and was blown away. Now, this isn't just your regular ol' fanart.

Audrey here has re-envisioned Star Fox as mech anime straight out of the 70's/80's:

    tumblr_lo8goaoGWi1qzbngeo1_r1_500.jpg

Titled Galaxy Fighter Star Fox, she's produced several pieces of concept art, including the Star Fox and Star Wolf teams, James McCloud, several enemies (including Caiman!), and Andross himself. Of course, being a mech anime re-envisioning, there are mechs to be found...and they look dang awesome.

    tumblr_locxi3uNqT1qzbngeo1_500.jpg

Now folks, I'm not much for anime-izing everything when it comes to fanart. But Audrey is a significant exception in her ability to capture the look and feel of the classic style, making Galaxy Fighter Star Fox a double package of nostalgia.

Please check out her Tumblr and her website and give her your support!

Star Fox 64 Credits Sheet Music

    By DZComposer, in Music,

    Teaser Paragraph:

In celebration of Star Fox 64 3D's launch, here is a piano arrangement of the ending credits from Star Fox 64!

This is an unsimplified arrangement, with what I would guess is medium/medium-hard (gotta be able to move your left hand quickly) difficulty.

The arrangement and sheet music were done by me, DZComposer. The performance mockup is a Cubase MIDI performance.
