[Starfox Adventures] Found some interesting things in the game's file system?

It all started yesterday, I decided to crack open the retail version of the Starfox Adventures GCM that I have, and it contained some interesting files that may lead back to DP's development.

I can say for sure that what I found here took me by surprise:

As you can see underlined in red, swapholbot, swaphol, and warlock if you don't know already were supposedly removed levels in the original game.

To me, it appears that the level data for these areas still remains in the retail's file system. That would be what I hope the case is... The other possibility is that Rareware was just too lazy to delete the files so they overwrote them and replaced the data for the new maps. However, I believe these are still intact because the format of the data is in the same order as all other map files, meaning it contains all of the files for the level to load properly. Seeing that I have no idea on how to replace these files with the retail's to perhaps access them, that's why I have come to this forum for some feedback and suggestions. I have been attempting to get into some deeper parts of this game for a few years now, and this is the closest I've gotten so far.

How interesting... Reminds me of unused assets in SSBB.

Actually it does for me as well, in fact this almost "loose" file organization could possibly lead to it being easier to access these maps. Thank goodness that this isn't a game where they compressed the crap out of everything and made it impossible to read.. haha

Warlock was a removed level? Could've sworn it was the Krazoa Palace since I extracted inside & found parts related to the Palace.

I suppose that would make sense, and unfortunately this is what I was afraid of. I think that the files were probably simply replaced by Rare, just not renamed, which may be a more likely result.

Rare didn't clean-up the repo before final build. People have found lots of stuff in there over the years, though to my knowledge none of this older code has been made playable by anyone.

Also, I advise caution with this topic. It is against SF-O rules to post things that encourage game piracy. Discussion of these unused items is fine, but talking about ROMs and where to get them or encouraging people to get them is a no-no.

Well as a "semi-programmer", all I have to say that when games have events like this one (Dino Planet becomes SFAd), this is the least that can happen. Why? Because they just make a few more assets to put in place of the older ones and sometimes forget to delete the old assets. Why? Well, that's not with me!

No worries, we are not encouraging piracy at all. This is a legitimate copy of the game and is reserved only for our use, but thank you for increasing awareness of piracy. It is a growing problem, especially with game companies right now.

Hmm, I wonder why these levels were scrapped. Were they lacking in quality or cut to shorten the game, or is there a darker and more sinister reason? Until someone figures out how to explore the code, who knows?

Those levels didnt belong to a StarFox game, so they got scrapped and replaced by Fox levels.
